Leicester Transport Heritage Trust hold an annual Heritage Bus Running Day. This was their 4th in 2013, and a very important one it was too.
The group had just signed the lease on what was the Tram Depot at Stoneygate on the southern border of Leicester, and they plan to turn this into a resource centre.
Buses ran from the Abbey Pumping Station, and Space Centre, site of the rally, to among other places, the tram depot on what was route 29.
Another important event was the 'launch' of newly restored Dennis Dominator, Leicester No. 50 (TBC 50X), and to perform this action, LTHT invited Geoffrey G. Hilditch O.B.E.
Mr. Hilditch (interviewed by Nick Larkin) recounts his life in the bus industry, and tells of how the Dennis Dominator was born.

With most of the filming done in 1998, this video was released in 1999, celebrating the 25 years since the Ailsa was introduced to the bus market at the Scottish Motor Show at Kelvin Hall, Glasgow in November 1973.

With lots of contemporary footage of Ailsas in Derby, Llangollen, Glasgow, Cardiff, and Dundee, ten years on, most of the vehicles filmed are no longer in service at these locations.

An extensive section, including Super 8 cine film taken by Keith Breeden, covers the unique Van Hool bodied Ailsas ordered by South Yorkshire PTE, and with images of Ailsas in Hong Kong and Jakarta, the variations of Ailsas are comprehensively covered.

How the Ailsa was conceived is recounted by the designer of the vehicle, Norman Watson, who tells where the engine may have been placed. The bus could have been rear-engined, or even under-floor engined!

On 30th December 2000, 5424, a newly restored D9, recreated the X68 run from Birmingham to Leicester via Coventry Pool Meadow bus station. On board were enthusiasts and a video cameraman from DAVideo. Following at various locations along the route were three other video cameramen. All so that DAVideo could produce a video of the event, and tell the story of the D9 in Leicester, the area that became the last bastion of the BMMO double-decker.

Included in the video is archive footage from 1979. This is super 8 SOUND film, shot by a member of the DAVideo team just before the withdrawal of the buses, plus other archive footage kindly provided by Rod Bates and Brian Dicks.

Stanley King's History of the Trolleybus

Stanley King's History of the Trolleybus
Format: DVD
Running time: 55 minutes

Stanley King has been a connoisseur of trolleybuses since he first saw an AEC 'Q' trolleybus in his home town of Bradford at the age of four, even sending suggestions to the General Manager of Bradford City Transport at the tender age of nine. Stanley led a public campaign to save Bradford's trolleybus system in the sixties, and in 1970 joined the council in a bid to either save the trolleys, or at least give them a decent funeral. At the time of the film he was the shadow transport chairman on West Yorkshire PTA, and made sure that trolleybuses were kept on the agenda.

This video is of a talk given by Stanley King at the Black Country Living Museum in June 2002. He was invited to give a talk on the history of trolleybuses, by the Black Country Museum Transport Group, on the occasion of their bi-annual trolleybus rally. Included in the video are some of Stanley's own collection of photographs, archive footage of various Wolverhampton trolleybuses filmed by John Hughes and Ernie Wilson in the sixties, and current video footage of ex-Bradford trolleybuses (735 and 792) traversing the Black Country Living Museum's ¾ mile circuit at the June 2002 rally.

There is an in-depth profile of each bus on site. Under the pit views of a trolleybus. How to check a trolleybus is free from voltage leakage. How to drive a trolleybus. How power is transmitted to the bus. Unique footage of the poles from the top of the bus.
